Dryer Vent Cleaning should be on the top of your to-do list when buying a home or preparing your home for selling.
Did you know that you should have your dryer vent cleaning performed regularly? It’s recommended that you have your dryer vents professionally cleaned every 1-3 years, depending on the age and type of your dryer, the shape of the dryer exhaust system and the amount of laundry dried in your home.
Why is dryer vent cleaning so important? Fires from dryers are the #1 cause of household fires, responsible for over 15,000 fires a year! Now that you’re aware of that, you’ll think twice the next time you go to turn on your dryer before leaving the house.
Plus, clean dryer vent lines will also save you money! It’s true. Cleaning your dryer vent on an annual basis will reduce the amount of time it takes to dry your clothes. In fact, a dryer that’s blocked with lint takes 3-4 times longer to dry a load of laundry! How does that equate to dollars? Well, this results in a difference of about 75 cents vs. $3 of energy consumption. That means you’ll be helping the environment too!
Can I do it myself? If you want my opinion, just pay the $100 to get a licensed and insured service professional out to your house to perform the dryer vent cleaning. Not only will it save you a ton of time (it takes them less than an hour, start to finish), it could save you from some major damage on your home if you don’t know what you’re doing. Plus, think about how many hours it will take you and put a dollar figure on your time.
