Must Do Before Showing your Home
Must Do Before Showing your Home. Advice by Stacey Glenn, Broker Associate at Royal Shell Real Estate.
A little effort goes a long way towards the curb appeal of your home. And great curb appeal means buyers may fall in love your home at first sight. It starts with the first photo a buyer sees online, and is solidified when they pull up to the curb during showings. Remember, the first step is to make the buyer want to come inside. These tips are the “must do’s” before showing your home…
Tidy Up. Make sure the house looks clean. Give your home a visual appeal. Mow the lawn, mop the floors, wipe the windows.
Polish Surfaces and Furniture. Give them an inviting feel, people would tend to touch…
De-clutter. Clutter makes a room look smaller. Eliminate items like toys, bathroom amenities, magazines and other personal items. People like space but not to much that it looks empty.
Open the Curtains. Lighting is important to create an ambiance to the room. This would also be an advantage if you want to showcase the immaculate view from your window.
Remove Pets. Yes! Pets indeed are adorable! But you never know when a potential buyer walks in only to find out that they are allergic. You will have to put them away just for the time being.
Deodorize. Foul smell is a definite turnoff for potential buyers. Your house should look clean and smell clean too. I don’t advise you to use strong spray scents. Nothing beats an all natural scent such as fresh flowers or try opening the windows to let in the cool breeze.
Touch Up Paint. First, wipe the walls with a wet cloth to remove hand prints in high traffic areas. If they still appear worn, touch up the paint. Be careful about touching up with semi-gloss paint though- as it can often highlight the new paint. This strategy works best with flat paint.
With these tips you’re one step closer to showing your home!
